Summary: Princeton University is seeking a Research Specialist I for the McBride Lab, which focuses on the intersection of evolution, genetics, and neuroscience. The role involves supporting research on mosquito behavior through various molecular and behavioral experiments, alongside general lab maintenance tasks. Responsibilities: - Maintaining insectary and mosquito colonies - Maintaining lab equipment - Preparing basic molecular biology reagents - Helping with purchasing - Helping design and carry out specific research projections, which may include: - Mosquito breeding and behavioral experiments - Design and generation of transgenic strains using CRISPR/Cas9 technology - Molecular biology studies including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cloning, immunohistochemistry - Genomic studies including preparation of high throughput sequencing libraries Required Qualifications: - The interested candidate should have a bachelor's degree in biology or related field - Previous experience in a research laboratory (beyond lab classes) - Candidates must be highly organized - Candidates must be detail-oriented - Candidates must demonstrate enthusiasm for working and communicating with others in a collaborative lab setting Preferred Qualifications: - Previous experience rearing insects - Previous experience carrying out molecular biology protocols - Previous experience studying animal behavior - A demonstrated interest in evolution, neuroscience, genomics and/or behavior Required Skills: Molecular biology, CRISPR/Cas9, Insect rearing Important Skills: Behavioral studies, Genomics Benefits: Comprehensive benefit program
