Job Description
Survey Rodman / Instrument Person (Heavy Civil) – DMV Area
Stop chasing random jobs. Come build real infrastructure.
PrimECS is looking for a Survey Rodman / Instrument Person to support layout and field survey on heavy civil projects across the DMV (roads, utilities, concrete, earthwork). If you take pride in accuracy and don’t need someone babysitting you every 5 minutes, keep reading.
What You’ll Do
- Support layout and staking for utilities, grading, concrete, and structures
- Run and assist with total stations, GPS/GNSS, and levels
- Set hubs, stakes, and control points from plans and coordinates
- Work directly with the Party Chief and field crews to keep work on line and on grade
- Collect as-built data and keep field notes clean and usable
- Catch mistakes before they become expensive problems
What We Expect
- 1–3 years of field survey or construction layout experience
- You can read plans, elevations, and cut sheets without guessing
- You show up on time, ready to work; no excuses
- You understand that 1 wrong stake can cost thousands
- Comfortable working outside in real conditions (heat, cold, mud, traffic)
What Helps You Stand Out
- Experience on DOT, rail, or utility projects
- Familiar with Trimble, Leica, or similar equipment
- OSHA 10/30
What You Get
- Steady work on real infrastructure projects—not patchwork jobs
- A team that actually uses survey correctly (not as an afterthought)
- Opportunity to grow into Party Chief or higher-level field/office roles
Bottom Line
We don’t need someone to just hold a rod. We need someone who understands that accuracy drives the entire job.
