Job Description
Summary: Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan fact tank that informs the public about issues shaping America and the world. The summer undergraduate internship provides an opportunity for students to assist researchers in various stages of the survey process, including data analysis and quality control, while gaining firsthand experience in data analysis and research production.
Responsibilities:
- Assist researchers in several stages of the survey process, such as analyzing survey data, creating data visualizations, drafting text and ensuring publications are accurate
- Conduct background research, help respond to outside requests for information and conduct quality control reviews
- Assist the research team on various aspects of the survey process, including questionnaire development, data management, statistical analysis, reporting of survey results and quality control
Required Qualifications:
- College students who are pursuing a bachelor's or associate degree and have completed a minimum of two years (in other words, rising juniors and seniors)
- Interest in public opinion, polling and social science
- Experience working with data and data analysis in SPSS, R, Stata, SAS or other statistical software
- A cover letter that addresses the following: (1) Describe why you are interested in an internship with Pew Research Center's Science team. (2) Please discuss your professional aspirations and how this internship would align with your career trajectory. (3) Tell us about a research project you worked on that you are especially proud of, and why (including any statistical analysis)
- A resume, which should include a listing of relevant course work, and any data analysis software used
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preference will be given to applicants who have completed at least one course in statistics or research design
