Job Description
Summary: Personalis is transforming the active management of cancer through breakthrough personalized testing. They are seeking a Software Engineer I to support the development and ongoing support of their Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), contributing to enhancements and modern cloud-based platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of software systems supporting laboratory operations
- Develop backend services and APIs using Python and/or Java
- Work with relational databases and gain exposure to graph database technologies
- Support cloud-based services and deployments in AWS
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and technical documentation
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues across development and production environments
- Participate in structured production support activities, including issue investigation and root cause analysis
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Required Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
- 1–2 years of software development experience (internships and academic projects welcome)
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python or Java
- Understanding of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming)
- Familiarity with relational databases and REST APIs
- Experience using Git or similar version control systems
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience or strong interest in healthcare, life sciences, or regulated systems
- Exposure to AWS or other cloud platforms
- Familiarity with Linux environments or containerization
- Exposure to graph databases or interest in learning graph-based data modeling
