Job Description
Summary: Peoria Park District is looking for a Monticello Education Intern at the Peoria PlayHouse Children's Museum. The intern will be responsible for coordinating field trips, assisting with interactive experiences, and leading programs for visitors, while contributing to the overall team efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate field trips and other group visits, including birthday parties and rentals as needed
- Communicate with individuals interested in booking field trips
- Complete bookings in the museum calendar and in the museum's booking system
- Assist in setup and facilitation of interactive field trip experiences, including leading selected field trips
- Lead programs at the PlayHouse, and collaborate on/contribute to programs in other Park District locations as needed
- Assist visitors on the museum floor
- Attend PlayHouse staff meetings and contribute to the overall work of the team
- Participate in Park District-wide program planning and review
- Follow all Peoria Park District rules, policies, and procedures
- Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the Peoria Park District’s safety program
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- A college degree is required
- Experience in a formal or informal educational setting working with children 0-9 years of age
- Must have experience or interest in working with children and families in an informal educational setting
- Must have excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to interact positively and spontaneously with visitors
- Knowledge of basic telephone and PC functions including Microsoft Office
- Ability to contribute to an atmosphere of teamwork and positive energy among staff and volunteers
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a minimal degree of supervision
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers
- Due to constraints related to the funding for this position, candidate must be a female (as defined by the candidate), and must have recently completed an undergraduate or graduate degree
Preferred Qualifications:
- A degree in Education, Museum Studies, Art, or Early Childhood Development is a plus
- Previous experience in a museum or with customer service is a plus
- Experience or desire to work with a highly diverse audience in a busy atmosphere
