Advanced Specialist, Workplace Management at Pearson in Durham, NC

Advanced Specialist, Workplace Management

12 Months Fixed Term Contract | Remote, United States | Eastern or Central time zones preferred

The opportunity

Pearson is strengthening how workplace risk, safety and compliance are managed across our global testing centre network and virtual school operations. We are looking for an organized, delivery-focused professional to help assess current practices, identify gaps and establish practical governance, reporting and follow-through across a complex, multi-location environment.

This is a hands-on project coordination role with exposure to compliance and operational risk. You do not need to be a senior technical health and safety specialist. You do need to be comfortable building structure, keeping work moving and bringing internal teams and external partners together around clear plans and standards.

This role aligns with industry job titles such as Project Manager, Risk & Compliance Project Specialist, Workplace Governance Specialist, Operational Risk & Compliance Specialist, Programme Coordinator, Implementation Manager, Quality Specialist, Audit Coordinator, Governance Specialist, Compliance Manager or Workplace Standards Specialist

What you will do

• Coordinate implementation of Pearson Global Workplace Standards across testing-centre and virtual school operations.
• Catalogue current processes and controls, support baseline assessments and coordinate gap analysis.
• Maintain project plans, dashboards, metrics, compliance records and action trackers.
• Coordinate annual workplace objectives, implementation plans and progress reporting.
• Act as a liaison across operations, compliance, workplace teams and our facilities-management provider.
• Track and escalate risk issues, mitigation plans, compliance concerns and remediation activity.
• Support validation, assurance and continuous-improvement work across multiple locations.

What you bring

• Three to five years of experience in project or programme coordination, compliance, risk management, facilities EHS, quality, audit or operational governance.
• Strong project organisation and execution, with evidence of managing milestones, actions, dependencies and stakeholder follow-through.
• Experience coordinating work across multiple sites, regions or time zones.
• Confidence creating and maintaining reports, dashboards and tracking tools.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet, Power BI, SharePoint and Microsoft Office applications.
• Clear communication, practical problem-solving and strong stakeholder management.
• Experience in retail, testing, education operations or another distributed customer-facing environment is advantageous.
• A bachelor’s degree in risk management, environmental health and safety, business administration, compliance, quality or a related field is preferred, not essential.

Working pattern

The role is expected to operate primarily remotely within the United States. Candidates in Eastern or Central time zones are preferred. Optional access to the Durham office is available, and occasional travel is expected to remain below 10%.

Why this role matters

You will help create the baseline, governance and operating routines for a newly expanded area of responsibility. The work will give leaders clearer visibility of workplace risk and leave a practical framework that teams can sustain after the initial set-up period.
