Job Description
Summary: PacifiCorp is seeking customer-centric candidates to grow and sustain their commitment to a culture of customer service excellence, environmental sustainability, inclusion & belonging. The Lab Technician will collect and analyze various water samples, prescribe chemical additions based on analysis, and perform routine maintenance on chemical analysis instrumentation.
Responsibilities:
- A lab technician collects and analyzes various water samples, prescribes chemical additions to various systems based on analysis and guidelines established by the plant chemist
- Prepares and performs required analysis and calculations on coal samples
- Operates, calibrates and performs routine maintenance on chemical analysis instrumentation
- Prepares chemical mixtures used for test applications; performs non-water analysis on equipment in and out of service as required; prepares and maintains necessary reports; and performs other tasks assigned
- Inspect and maintain plant fire extinguishers
Required Qualifications:
- A 'C' grade or better in each of the listed courses is required to satisfy the academic requirements
- Must have completed required courses (Examples are from University of Utah):
- Chemistry 1210: General Chemistry - 4 semester hours
- Chemistry 1230: General Chemistry 1 Lab - 1 semester hour
- Chemistry 1220: General Chemistry 2 - 4 semester hours
- Chemistry 1240: General Chemistry 2 Lab - 1 semester hour
- Mathematics 1050: College Algebra - 4 semester hours
- Candidates selected for an interview will be asked for a copy of their transcripts

- Internal: Must complete power plant fundamentals
- The employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear
- The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms
- The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in utility plant maintenance and instrumentation is helpful
