Sensor Hardware Development Intern at Osmo in New York, NY

Summary: Osmo is a digital olfaction company on a mission to give computers a sense of smell to improve health and wellbeing. They are seeking a Sensor Hardware Development summer intern to build knowledge and strategies for sensor optimization, working closely with the Sensors team. Responsibilities: - Working under the direction of our Sensor Application Scientist and reporting to the Director of Sensor Technology - Utilizing knowledge of fluid dynamics, additive manufacturing, and engineering to apply published research findings and optimize sample introduction - Maximizing sensor signal through parameter optimization - 5 days a week in person in our new Elizabeth, NJ facility Required Qualifications: - Current Undergraduate or Graduate student in electrical or mechanical engineering - Experience with rapid prototyping and experimental hardware platforms, such as: Microcontroller-based systems (e.g., Arduino-class platforms), Single-board computers (e.g., Raspberry Pi-class platforms), Sensors, actuators, pumps, valves, or other fluid-handling components - Experience in CAD software, additive manufacturing, and embedded systems engineering - Interest in learning about chemical sensing and analytical chemistry - Strong collaborative mindset and initiative to tackle problems Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in fluid dynamics - Experience in chemical sensing techniques such as ion mobility spectrometry, mass spectrometry, and spectroscopy - Additional experience in chemistry or machine learning Required Skills: Microcontroller-based systems, Single-board computers, CAD software Important Skills: Additive manufacturing, Embedded systems engineering, Fluid dynamics Nice-to-Have Skills: Interest in chemical sensing, Analytical chemistry, Machine learning, Collaborative mindset Benefits: Health, dental, and vision coverage, A 401(k) retirement savings plan with company match, Flexible paid time off and company holidays, Equity or incentive compensation for eligible roles
