Job Description:
Onni is seeking a Junior Plant Engineer to join our dynamic Capilano Energy team. The successful candidate will support daily plant operations and maintenance activities across multiple sites, working under the guidance of senior engineering staff and gaining hands-on experience.
Reporting to the Senior Plant Engineer, the Junior Plant Engineer will support Capilano Energy in delivering sustainable and reliable district energy services. This full-time role follows a Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:00pm schedule and is a great opportunity for someone is eager to learn, build hands-on experience across a dynamic, multi-building environment.

What You Will Do:
Plant Operations & Maintenance
Assist in the operation of boilers, chillers, heat pumps, cooling towers, pumps, and auxiliary equipment in compliance with Technical Safety BC regulations, under the direction of senior plant staff.
Support the diagnosis and completion of repairs for mechanical and electrical issues, escalating complex issues to senior staff as needed.
Perform preventative maintenance to maximize equipment reliability and efficiency.
Conduct regular inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness.
Performs other duties as required.
Team Communication & Coordination:
Participate in weekly team meetings.
Coordinate work with contractors, vendors, and internal departments.
Actively participate in on-the-job training and mentorship from senior operations staff, with a focus on developing skills, certification, and safety awareness.
Performance Monitoring & Regulatory Compliance:
Assist with monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues under supervision.
Maintain up-to-date records, logs, and inspection reports.
Ensure adherence to safety protocols and company operating standards.
What You Will Bring:
5th Class Power Engineer certification required.
1–2 years of plant operations experience preferred; recent graduates of a Power Engineering program with relevant practicum or co-op experience will also be considered.
Working knowledge of boilers, chillers, heat pumps, cooling towers, pumps, BACnet, and related mechanical/electrical systems, with a strong willingness to learn.
Ability to read engineering drawings.
Knowledge of TSBC regulations.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must be a self-starter with a strong interest in growing a long-term career in power engineering.
Salary Range:
$50,000 - $60,000 Per Year
