Job Description
Summary: Okta is The World’s Identity Company, dedicated to providing secure access and authentication. As a Software Engineer I on the Access Requests team, you will own features end-to-end, collaborating with cross-functional partners and contributing to team culture while focusing on high-quality software development.
Responsibilities:
- Own features from technical design through implementation and launch, with support from senior engineers
- Write high-quality, full-stack JavaScript code with a focus on reliability and performance
- Participate in on-call rotations to support our federal customers and learn the system deeply
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners (PMs, designers, QA) to understand requirements and deliver solutions
- Embrace test-driven development, code reviews, and production monitoring as core practices
- Troubleshoot production issues using observability tools like Datadog
- Experiment with AI-powered development tools and workflows - we're building the future of how software gets made
- Contribute to team culture by being open, collaborative, and always learning
Required Qualifications:
- 0-2 years of software development experience (internships, bootcamps, and personal projects count)
- Familiarity with JavaScript and web development fundamentals
- Exposure to backend concepts (APIs, databases, async processing)
- A proven ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies
- Curiosity about AI technologies and how they're changing software development
- Strong collaboration skills and openness to feedback
- Must be federally eligible to support monitoring our federal customer base
- This position requires the ability to access federal environments and/or have access to protected federal data. As a condition of employment for this position, the successful candidate must be able to submit documentation establishing U.S. Person status (e.g. a U.S. Citizen, National, Lawful Permanent Resident, Refugee, or Asylee. 22 CFR 120.15) upon hire
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Node.js/Express or React
- Familiarity with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases
- Exposure to cloud platforms (GCP, AWS), containers, or CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with monitoring tools (Datadog, Splunk)
- Personal projects or contributions that demonstrate initiative and passion for building
