Job Description
Summary: The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) offers unpaid volunteer internship opportunities for students, recent graduates, and veterans to gain knowledge and hands-on experience in U.S. trade policy. Intern responsibilities include conducting research and analysis, preparing reports and briefing materials, and assisting with meeting and conference planning.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for handling variations from prescribed procedures in solving problems related to office administrative matters
- Prepares a variety of correspondence, memoranda, and information
- Assists in developing material for briefings, reports, presentations and conferences for division/office staff and supervisors
- Provides research, analysis, statistics and legislative markups
- Assists in day-to-day operations through performing a mixture of routine and sometimes complex tasks
Required Qualifications:
- U.S. citizenship
- At least 18 years old before the first day of the program
- Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program at a college, community college, or university (two- to four-year institution)
- Graduated from an accredited undergraduate or graduate program at a college, community college, or university (two- to four-year institution) no more than two years prior to the first day of the EOP Internship Program
- A veteran of the United States Armed Forces who possesses a high school diploma or its equivalent and has served on active duty, for any length of time, no more than two years prior to the first day of the EOP Internship Program
- Registration with the Selective Service System (if applicable)
- Completion of the entire 14-week term
- Participation in all mandatory on-boarding/off-boarding activities
- Undergo a rigorous security review and drug testing prior to the start of the program
- Sign an USTR Internship Program Participant Agreement Form
- Submit a complete application package including a cover letter and resume
- Provide supporting documents to verify qualifications

- Demonstrated interest and a commitment to public service through schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and previous work or internship experience

Internship Start Date: Start in 2026 Fall
