Apprentice Software Engineer

In this apprentice role, you'll learn by doing -- contributing to real projects on our employee recognition platform while partnering closely with experienced engineers.
Responsibilities
Help identify, analyze, and remediate software vulnerabilities and accessibility issues
Support the team by researching system capabilities and sharing findings with other developers
Build and improve automated tests and test tooling for our employee recognition system
With guidance from senior engineers, learn product requirements and help implement new features for our next-generation recognition platform
Collaborate with your mentor and teammates through pair programming, design discussions, and regular check-ins
Write clean, maintainable code and contribute to code reviews -- both giving and receiving constructive feedback
Document technical decisions, changes, and troubleshooting steps to help keep the team aligned
Participate in sprint ceremonies (standups, planning, reviews, retrospectives) and help break down work into well-scoped tasks
Monitor and help troubleshoot issues in lower environments, and learn how we operate and support software in production
Required Skills
Experience with the Spring framework (Spring / Spring Boot)
Familiarity with API development and integration (REST and/or GraphQL)
Experience with the React JS framework is helpful, but not required
Working knowledge of Java (ability to read, write, and debug Java code)
Working knowledge of SQL (writing queries to read and analyze data)
Familiarity with source control and standard development workflows (e.g., Git)
