Organization: Ocean Legacy Foundation
Position Type: Volunteer
Location: Remote / Hybrid / In-Person (as needed)
Reports To: Executive Director
Time Commitment: Up to 10 hours a month for one year (more hours depending on your availability)
Position Summary
The Volunteer Coordinator supports Ocean Legacy Foundation by helping recruit, organize, communicate with, and retain volunteers who contribute to the organization’s mission. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, people-focused, and passionate about environmental stewardship, marine debris response, and community engagement.
The Volunteer Coordinator plays an important role in ensuring volunteers have a positive experience while helping programs run smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment & Onboarding
- Assist with volunteer outreach and recruitment efforts
- Respond to volunteer inquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Coordinate volunteer applications, screening, and onboarding
- Help ensure volunteers understand organizational policies, expectations, and safety procedures
Scheduling & Coordination
- Coordinate volunteer schedules for events, cleanups, training sessions, and administrative support
- Maintain volunteer contact lists and availability records
- Match volunteers with suitable opportunities based on skills and interests
- Assist with event logistics and volunteer deployment
Communication & Engagement
- Serve as a point of contact for volunteer communications
- Send updates, reminders, and follow-up communications
- Help foster positive volunteer relationships and retention
- Support volunteer appreciation and recognition initiatives
Administrative Support
- Maintain accurate volunteer records and hours
- Track participation and support reporting needs
- Assist with volunteer documentation and forms
- Help improve systems for volunteer coordination and program efficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Experience in volunteer management, event coordination, HR support, or administration is an asset
- Comfortable coordinating multiple people and schedules
- Proficiency with email, spreadsheets, and basic digital tools
- Passion for environmental sustainability and community involvement
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Time Commitment
- Flexible; estimated 10 hours month depending on need
- Some evening or weekend availability may be helpful for events
