Summary: The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation is seeking an Assistant Engineer (Environmental) / Engineer Trainee to conduct compliance inspections at construction sites. The role involves reviewing stormwater management plans and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct compliance inspections at construction sites covered under the department’s SPDES Construction General Permit (CGP) and SPDES Multi Sector General SPDES permit (MSGP) programs for compliance with the permits, including the review and approval of Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP)
- Prepare inspections reports and, when necessary, issue Notices of Violations to sites that are in noncompliance with the applicable stormwater regulations and SWPPP requirements
- Review applications for 5-acre waivers and draft approval or denial letters as appropriate
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology as listed below
- Proof of passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time engineering experience as listed below
- Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below
- Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below
- One year of full-time experience in sanitary, public health or environmental engineering
- Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position
- Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required
- Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain
- Must be able to work in remote areas
- Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions
- Travel may be required
- Overtime may be required
- Overnight travel may be required
- Must be available for emergency response
