Job Title: Safety Officer/Safety Supervisor
Location: Pune (Project Site)
Industry: Real Estate / Construction
Reports To: Project Manager / HSE Manager
Experience: 1 to 6 years in construction safety
Qualification: Diploma/Degree in Safety,ADIS, NEBOSH/IOSH or equivalent preferred
Job Summary
The Safety Officer will be responsible for implementing and monitoring health, safety, and environmental standards at the construction site. The role involves identifying hazards, ensuring compliance with applicable safety regulations, conducting inspections and training, and promoting a strong safety culture among employees, contractors, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement the company's HSE policies, procedures, and safety standards at the project site.
- Conduct daily site inspections to identify unsafe conditions and unsafe acts.
- Ensure compliance with applicable construction safety laws, regulations, and client requirements.
- Prepare and maintain risk assessments, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and method statements.
- Monitor high-risk activities such as:
- Work at height
- Scaffolding
- Excavation and trenching
- Lifting and crane operations
- Electrical work
- Hot work
- Confined-space entry
- Demolition and structural work
- Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Conduct Toolbox Talks, safety inductions, and regular safety training for workers and contractors.
- Inspect scaffolds, ladders, lifting equipment, electrical installations, fire-fighting equipment, and other safety systems.
- Monitor compliance with work permits such as hot work, height work, confined space, and excavation permits.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe occurrences and prepare reports with corrective/preventive actions.
- Maintain safety records, inspection checklists, training records, incident reports, and statutory documents.
- Coordinate with project engineers, supervisors, contractors, and workers to resolve safety issues.
- Stop unsafe work where there is an immediate risk to personnel or property.
- Conduct emergency preparedness drills such as fire, evacuation, rescue, and medical emergencies.
- Ensure proper housekeeping, waste management, access/egress, barricading, signage, and site security.
- Support internal and external HSE audits and inspections.
- Monitor contractor/subcontractor safety performance and ensure corrective actions are closed within the required timeframe.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly HSE reports for project management.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of construction site safety practices.
- Good understanding of hazard identification and risk assessment.
- Knowledge of scaffolding, lifting operations, electrical safety, fire safety, and work-at-height safety.
- Ability to conduct safety training and toolbox meetings.
- Good incident investigation and report-writing skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Good knowledge of MS Office/Excel for maintaining safety documentation.
Qualification & Certification
- Diploma/Degree in Engineering/ Occupational Health & Safety / Industrial Safety
- Relevant safety certification such as ADIS, NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent is an advantage.
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
- Knowledge of applicable Indian construction and occupational safety requirements preferred.
