The Aluminum Modeling Engineer Co-op will focus on developing physics-based and data-driven models to enhance the research and development of aluminum alloys and optimize product design. Responsibilities: - Develop finite-element models accounting for material microstructure and properties with product/process information - Develop python scripts to parametrize and automate model creation geared towards intelligent experimentation/design optimization - Leverage experimental and simulation data to build data-driven models aimed at accelerated prediction - Collaborate with other R&D teams to enable model-driven design guidance - Prepare technical reports and presentations to share knowledge and findings across R&D Required Qualifications: - Student pursuing B.S., M.S., or PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent - Minimum 3 years into program if in B.S - 2+ Years of experience with Python Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with mechanical engineering software (e.g. FEM such as Abaqus/LS Dyna/AutoForm, Solidworks, etc.) - Machine learning and data science experience - Experience with tools leveraging GPUs for accelerated computing - Experience with advanced AI methods – GANs, VAEs, Reinforcement Learning, RNNs, etc - Experience or knowledge of metals industry or sheet metal applications - Experience with leadership and interpersonal roles Required Skills: Finite-element modeling, Python Important Skills: Mechanical engineering software, Machine learning, Data science Nice-to-Have Skills: metals industry
