Job Description
Summary: Northwestern Mutual is a strong, innovative, and growing company that invests in its people. They are seeking a Data Engineering Intern to work within the Core Data & Analytics function, where the intern will gain hands-on experience in data exploration, cleansing, and transformation to support analytics efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Gain exposure to real-world business perspectives through hands-on learning and substantial work
- Participate in professional development workshops, leadership Q&A sessions, volunteer initiatives, and networking events
- Complete tasks critical for Northwestern Mutual's success
- Work within the Core Data & Analytics function alongside your hiring manager, mentor, and team
- Support the development of data products using continuous deployment and integration practices
Required Qualifications:
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related field from an accredited college or university
- Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
- Previous work or classroom experience in one or more of the following: SQL, R, Java, Python, Tableau, Power BI, and other data & visualization tools
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous software engineering or data-focused internship and/or relevant project experience
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Self-starter, resourceful, analytical, innovative, and intellectually curious
- Confirmed analytical and problem-solving ability
- High degree of self-motivation, eagerness to learn, and ability to balance multiple priorities
- Knowledge of SharePoint administration is a plus
- Ability to solve network, software, and hardware issues
- Experience with sourcing, cleansing, and combining datasets from various sources
- Passion for problem-solving, research, quantitative analysis, and analytical techniques
- Exceedingly organized with a keen attention to detail
