Summary: The City of Boise provides community services and educational programming through The WaterShed. The WaterShed Education Intern supports youth and family programs by teaching environmental education lessons, leading exhibit hall experiences and tours, conducting outreach, and assisting education coordinators with program preparation and materials.

Responsibilities:
- Teaches place-based environmental education programming and events designed for a range of audiences, from preschool aged children to adults. Conducts community outreach as needed
- Provides excellent customer service while interacting with the public in the exhibit hall and outdoor areas
- Supports education coordinators with a variety of tasks, including room set up and clean up, inventorying and restocking of supplies and compiling educational materials

Required Qualifications:
- Must be an undergraduate student. This internship is a valuable opportunity for a wide variety of majors, including environmental science, education (elementary or secondary) or those interested in increasing their science communication skills
- Candidates must be available to work at least one weekday (Monday - Friday) for a 6 - 8-hour shift
- Ability to engage and work with the public, including working with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds; apply customer service techniques; utilize basic computer skills; exercise tact, patience, diplomacy, cultural sensitivity and courtesy when dealing with people; troubleshoot and problem-solve; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. The noise level is occasionally moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.Additional physical efforts include: ability to walk/hike up to three miles in a day
- The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. walk on gravel paths, near Boise River, canal and ponds possible encounters with wildlife and insects
- This position works: possible weekend work

Preferred Qualifications:
- First Aid and CPR Certification
- Prior experience working with the general public or children
