Job Description
Summary: The City of Indianapolis and Marion County operates the Marion County Coroner’s office, which investigates and determines causes and manners of death. The Intern will shadow Deputy Coroners, support death-scene investigations, interact with families, maintain records and databases, review decedent property, schedule appointments, and provide clerical and research support.
Responsibilities:
- Provides preliminary data and information from death investigations
- Ensures that the total work produce meets all appropriate scientific, legal and accreditation requirements
- Maintains a variety of records, databases, and logbooks pertaining to autopsy records, deaths, disposal permits, autopsy quality assurance data and investigative data
- Reviews and documents decedent personal property
- Works with the families in scheduling appointments and releasing of property to the legal next of kin
- Enters and maintains system documentation of all work performed ensuring accuracy and completeness for death investigations
- Assist or performs procedures for identification of decedent records
- Writes and creates documents such as reports, memos, presentations, and spreadsheets
- Provides clerical support in meetings through effective note taking or recording meeting minutes
- Conducts effective research
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate or Undergraduate student with a minimum of one year of college education
- Ability to work at least 20 hours per week
