Job Description
Summary: The Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County operates the Chancery Court Clerk & Master’s Office. The Deputy Clerk and Master 1/Calendar Clerk serves as the primary liaison between the office and the Chancellor, monitoring case progress and disposition while communicating with litigants, preparing reports, drafting orders, processing filings, and performing clerical duties.
Responsibilities:
- Communicate verbally and in writing with attorneys and pro se litigants regarding case status
- Prepare and maintain case reports for the Chancellor
- Draft case dismissal and case monitoring orders for the Chancellor
- Review and process case filings into case management system
- Perform clerical duties as assigned with accuracy
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply
- All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government
Preferred Qualifications:
- Paralegal certificate or other legal training or experience, especially legal writing
- Interest in a career in the legal profession
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
- Knowledge of legal terminology and procedure
- Bilingual
