Summary: NiSource is a public utility company seeking a Gas Systems Design Engineer to provide technical expertise, guidance, and design support for gas pipeline and related facilities. The role involves collaborating with various internal stakeholders to deliver safe and compliant technical solutions while ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities: - Provide technical advice, assistance, and training related to the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of pipeline, measurement, regulation, and related equipment - Develop detailed engineering designs, cost estimates, and construction drawings for pipeline, measurement, regulation, and transmission facilities - Design large-scale facilities in compliance with Company standards, industry standards, and applicable federal codes - Conduct field visits to evaluate site conditions and provide technical guidance to support project design and execution - Support Engineering and Operations personnel during and after normal work hours, as needed, to troubleshoot equipment and material issues and develop effective solutions - Prepare, maintain, and standardize designs and drawings for regulation, measurement, and transmission facilities - Provide training, mentoring, and technical guidance to new and less experienced engineering personnel - Collaborate with internal peers and external industry partners to ensure effective and consistent technical solutions - Assist with the development of policies and procedures; evaluate materials and equipment; monitor industry trends; and recommend value-added technologies, tools, and planning techniques - Participate in special assignments and studies related to cost analysis, facility design, workload assessments, time studies, environmental considerations, facility failures, and class location requirements - Promote customer satisfaction by maintaining strong, customer-focused working relationships with Engineering, Operations, and other internal stakeholders, actively seeking and incorporating feedback - Align individual objectives with department goals and corporate initiatives, considering impacts to operational plans and budgets - Attend training sessions and industry conferences related to departmental functions Required Qualifications: - Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program - 1+ years of relevant experience in a related field for Gas Systems Design Engineer I - 2+ years of relevant experience in a related field for Gas Systems Design Engineer II - 3+ years of relevant experience in a related field for Gas Systems Design Engineer III - 5+ years of relevant experience in a related field for Senior Gas Systems Design Engineer - Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD and PC-based applications - Demonstrated project management capabilities - Ability to travel 30%–60% within the NiSource footprint, including consecutive weeks, depending on location - Valid, in-state driver's license upon hire Preferred Qualifications: - Master's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field - Additional training or coursework in measurement, regulation, and related equipment design - 4+ years of operations experience in Engineering, Pipeline, Regulation, Measurement, or Electronic systems - Professional Engineer (PE) license Required Skills: Gas pipeline design, AutoCAD, Project management Important Skills: Engineering degree, Measurement regulation design Nice-to-Have Skills: Technical guidance, Customer satisfaction
