Job Description
Summary: The New York State Office of Mental Health is seeking a Senior Accountant or Accountant Trainee for a two-year traineeship leading to a Senior Accountant position. The role involves performing audits, assisting in audit program development, and requires strong computer and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Perform audits using established audit programs and templates, and in accordance with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Global Internal Audit Standards
- Conduct audits independently and with a team
- Assist in creating and updating audit programs and templates when necessary
- Must have excellent computer skills and software proficiency
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and two years of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles
- A master's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles or a currently valid Certified Public Accountant license and registration issued by New York State
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles
- A master's or higher degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation may substitute for one year of experience
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses
- Excellent computer skills and software proficiency
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
