Assistant Director of Prevention
Regular Full Time · Location: New Vista Regional Prevention Center, Lexington, KY, US
The Assistant Director of Prevention provides training and technical assistance to community coalitions with the goal of effectively implementing evidence-based behavioral health programs, practices, and policies. This implementation seeks to reduce risk factors and increase protective factors related to substance use, mental health issues, and suicide. The Assistant Director of Prevention is a positive team player that promotes a culture of inclusion and participation.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Health Administration, Public Policy Administration, Health Communications, or related field
- Valid driver’s license, reliable operating transportation, and proof of current auto insurance
- Must be a Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) or certified within 3 years of employment start date
- A minimum of two years’ experience in the Prevention field
Preferred Education and Experience
- Candidate should possess relevant experience overseeing and leading a prevention team, ensuring operational efficiency, and fostering a collaborative work environment
Essential Functions

- Develop and enhance knowledge of evidence-based prevention strategies and initiatives across the region by actively seeking opportunities to participate in training programs, workshops, webinars, and conferences related to prevention strategies and initiatives
- Demonstrate understanding of the needs assessment process, including data collection and analysis
- Assists in strategically planning all prevention activities for the next fiscal year and supports implementing the strategic plan
- Develop relationships with community partners and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of community systems
- Coordinate activities between prevention specialists for region-wide prevention initiatives
- Actively work to connect New Vista employees and departments to the work of Prevention
- Coordinate training and capacity-building opportunities for staff
- Provide required supervision hours for all staff working toward their CPS Certificate and assist in submitting all documentation to the Kentucky Certification Board for Prevention Professionals
- Assist Director with KY Department of Behavioral Health reporting requirements, budgets, and work plans
- Assist the Director of Prevention in the Director’s absence
