The Medicinal Chemistry Intern will gain research experience in biotechnology, focusing on synthesizing chemical compounds and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support drug discovery projects. Responsibilities: - Synthesizing novel chemical intermediates and final compounds: - Reviewing the chemical literature to obtain procedures, guide reaction sequences - Setting up, monitoring by TLC and/or LCMS, and working-up reactions - Purifying compounds by automated chromatography (ISCO combi-flash or ACCQprep) or recrystallization - Learning about and applying medicinal chemistry and CNS-drug discovery principles to drug discovery projects - Generating and interpreting biological data - Helping develop plans to address medicinal chemistry goals - Maintaining a complete laboratory notebook - Interacting with other chemists and pharmacologists within the company - Completing a special project and present the recommendations to management upon completion Required Qualifications: - Candidate must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in one of the following areas: Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry - Availability from June 1 to August 7th for the 10-week internship program - Practical experience with organic synthesis, methods development, total synthesis, or similar - Ability to work in a laboratory environment - Prior laboratory experience (Minimum>1 year) - Good verbal and written communication skills - Ability to think creatively and be a team player - Interest in attending various program events, including social gatherings, career development workshops, and more - Ability to commit to a 10-week, full-time summer program - Lab Work Requirements: full-time Required Skills: Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Organic Synthesis Important Skills: Laboratory Experience Nice-to-Have Skills: Communication Skills, Team Player, Creative Thinking
