Job Description
Summary: Neurocrine Biosciences is a leading neuroscience-focused biopharmaceutical company dedicated to discovering and developing life-changing treatments. The Analytical Chemistry Intern role offers hands-on laboratory experience in analytical chemistry and small molecule purification, supporting various activities related to sample analysis and lab operations.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting a range of activities, including small molecule purification, sample analysis, and lab operations
- Assisting with daily HPLC and SFC runs for small molecule analysis and purification
- Learning to execute basic achiral and chiral chromatographic methods under supervision
- Preparing samples and helping maintain high-throughput operations
- Performing routine instrument readiness checks and basic laboratory maintenance
- Recording, organizing, and summarizing experimental data
- Helping evaluate chromatograms and contributing to preliminary data interpretation
- Supporting lab setup for ongoing purification campaigns and analytical procedures
- Collaborating with a mentor team of cross-functional scientists as well as the other summer interns
- Completing a special project and presenting findings and recommendations to senior management upon completion
Required Qualifications:
- Pursuing an undergraduate degree with an interest in biotechnology and/or analytical chemistry
- Prior experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech lab is an asset but not required
- Familiarity with concepts in chemistry, analytical methods, or chromatography is desirable
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to think creatively and work collaboratively in a team environment
- Willingness to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced setting
- Enthusiasm for learning laboratory techniques and contributing to drug discovery research
- Interest in attending program events including social activities, career workshops, and scientific seminars
- Ability to commit to a 10-week, full-time summer program
