Job Description
Summary: National Louis University is a historic institution dedicated to innovation, access, and excellence in education. The Back End Web Developer will assist in the development and maintenance of back-end systems and server-side logic for web applications, collaborating closely with senior developers and stakeholders to support feature development and ensure application performance.
Responsibilities:
- Assists in developing, testing, and maintaining server-side application logic using PHP, Python, or Node.js within a web framework (e.g., Laravel, Django)
- Supports API development and integration, working with both internal and third-party RESTful services
- Collaborates with other developers, designers and external agencies to implement creative within CMS or application framework
- Collaborates with front-end developers to integrate user-facing elements using server-side logic
- Participates in code reviews, team meetings, and contributes to documentation of back-end processes and system design
- Assists in monitoring application performance and logs to troubleshoot issues in production environments
- Continuously learns and applies best practices in security, scalability, and code quality
- Performs other related duties as assigned to support team goals and development timelines
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in design, computer science, or related program or significant related experience
- Basic experience in back-end development using PHP, Python, or Node.js
- Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., MySQL or PostgreSQL), including writing and debugging SQL queries
- Exposure to back-end frameworks (e.g., Laravel, Express.js, Flask) and understanding of MVC principles
- Basic understanding of RESTful APIs and ability to consume or build simple APIs
- Familiarity with Git version control and basic terminal commands in a Linux environment
- Ability to manage multiple projects and complete them on time
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities as the need arises
- Strong team orientation and the ability to communicate well to those both within the industry and other stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience and understanding of web technologies as they relate to Higher Education is a plus
