Job Description
Summary: National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) is the nation's primary laboratory for energy systems research and development. They are seeking a graduate student researcher to benchmark AI/ML workflows on high performance computing systems, collaborating with staff to evaluate tools and document results.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluating the feasibility of the Chakra/Astra-Sim toolsuite for potential profiling and performance projection use by interested NLR researchers
- Executing AI/ML benchmarks on diverse high-performance hardware
- Obtaining, processing, and analyzing profiling and projection results from Chakra/Astra-Sim
- Understanding how software and hardware selection can influence benchmarking results
- Comprehensively documenting all results
- Assisting NLR staff in delivering a generalizable profile-validate-project workflow for PyTorch-based AI/ML workflows using Chakra/Astra-Sim
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average
- Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor's degree program from an accredited institution
- Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year
- Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master's degree program from an accredited institution
- Post Graduate: Earned a master's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year
- Graduate + PhD: Completed master's degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution
- Ability to use Python
- Experience using package management tools (Anaconda/Mamba)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to use Linux/OSX terminals
- Experience with shell scripting (bash, cshell, etc)
- Familiarity with / experience in at least one of: High-Performance Computing, Distributed Systems, Parallel Computing, High Performance Algorithms, Multiple Linux distributions
- Experience with SLURM or similar HPC schedulers
- Experience with PyTorch
- Any kind of benchmarking experience
