Job Description
Summary: The N.C. Department of Information Technology is part of the Adult Correction agency, responsible for safeguarding and supervising adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. They are seeking a Correctional Training Specialist to manage training activities at Johnston Correctional Institution, ensuring compliance with training standards and facilitating the development of training programs.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the planning, delivery, implementation and cooperation for all training activities assigned to Johnston Correctional Institution
- This position reviews all request for training and applications for educational assistance submitted by the employees within the facility to ensure appropriateness of the requested training and the compliance with established policy and procedure for requesting training
- This position reviews, schedules, coordinates and conducts mandatory annual in-service training which is required for all employees certified by the N.C. Criminal Justice education and training standards commission
- This position reviews, schedules, coordinates and conducts the New Hire Orientation for all newly assigned employees within the first 30 days of their employment
- This position reviews, schedules, coordinates and assists in preparation of review of review sessions for applicants for promotional exams
- This position is responsible for developing lessons plans and training proposals for the delivery of non-calendared training for employees
- This position reviews, schedules, and coordinates participation in divisional training sessions as advertised in the training calendar
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and one year of experience in a criminal justice or training-related field
- High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Officer
- Two years of experience as a Correctional Officer I
- An equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission
