Job Description
Summary: Muon Space is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Early Career Electrical Hardware Engineer to join our growing team in San Jose, CA. This role involves contributing to the design, development, and testing of cutting-edge electrical hardware for next-generation spacecraft.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the design and development of electrical systems for spacecraft avionics, including areas such as flight computers, power distribution, guidance and navigation, sensors, actuators, and communication systems
- Participate in schematic capture and PCB layout with the guidance of senior engineers
- Assist in the bring-up, testing, and validation of newly designed hardware
- Collaborate with software engineers on the integration and testing of hardware and software components
- Build and test early hardware prototypes to evaluate design concepts and mitigate risks
- Work cross-functionally with mechanical, software, systems, and production teams to ensure successful integration and manufacturability of hardware
- Contribute to the creation of design documentation, test procedures, and reports
- Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback
Required Qualifications:
- 0-3 years of experience in hardware engineering, preferably with exposure to electronic systems (relevant internships and academic projects will be considered)
- Familiarity with basic electronic components, circuits, and test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies)
- Exposure to schematic capture and PCB layout software (e.g., Altium, Cadence/Orcad)
- Understanding of microcontroller basics and common communication interfaces (e.g., UART, SPI, I2C)
- Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to engineering challenges
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A strong desire to learn and contribute in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with embedded systems or basic embedded programming concepts
- Familiarity with environmental testing considerations (e.g., vibration, thermal, EMI)
- Exposure to scripting languages like Python for test automation or data analysis
- Participation in relevant student projects or clubs (e.g., robotics, aerospace)
