Overview: The Assistant Manager of Home Equity oversees the day-to-day operations of the Home Equity department, ensuring efficient operation and effective service delivery with a strong focus on member satisfaction and service quality. This role supports the execution and performance of all necessary Home Equity Lending functions while assisting in the coordination and oversight of department activities and operational processes. The Assistant Manager is responsible for promoting operational efficiency, expense management, and the protection of MCU assets. In addition, this position provides daily leadership, coaching, mentoring, training, and guidance to team members, fostering a high performing and member-focused environment.
Responsibilities:
Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist in overseeing the daily operations of the Home Equity Lending business unit and support departmental objectives.
- Supervise, coach, develop, and motivate Home Equity staff, providing ongoing guidance, performance feedback, and support to ensure achievement of departmental goals, service standards, and employee development objectives.
- Partner with the Vice President of Residential Lending on staffing, employee relations, performance management, succession planning, and training initiatives, while identifying and communicating team development needs.
- Foster effective communication and employee engagement by facilitating regular team meetings, sharing departmental updates, encouraging feedback and collaboration, and ensuring staff are informed of changes affecting department operations and member service.
- Support the evaluation and implementation of process improvements, workflow enhancements, and operational practices to improve departmental efficiency, service quality, and cost effectiveness.
- Monitor Home Equity/HELOC operations and workflows, recommending and implementing procedural updates to support business objectives, regulatory requirements, and an exceptional member experience.
- Maintain and update Home Equity/HELOC policies, procedures, and guidelines, ensuring adherence to established underwriting standards and supporting consistent lending practices.
- Support department leadership in monitoring compliance with applicable lending laws, regulations, and risk-based lending guidelines, while remaining current on regulatory changes that may impact operations.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for policy and procedural enhancements, providing recommendations that strengthen compliance, operational effectiveness, and member service.
- Partner with department leadership and Marketing to develop, promote, and implement new or enhanced lending products, services, and related materials.
- Serve as a key liaison between lending, branch, operations, information systems, and leadership teams to facilitate communication, resolve issues, and support departmental initiatives.
- Supervise and participate in the opening, processing, underwriting and closing of Home Equity loans.
- Ensure that applicable loan policies are met; proper loan documentation is obtained and updated in the loan operating system.
- Review vendor contracts and make appropriate recommendations.
- Obtain information related to member needs, concerns, and problems.
- Reviews Audit Report and ensure recommendations and/or findings are appropriately addressed.
- Assists Quality Assurance with information for new releases to Internal Lending Procedures.
- Provides pipeline updates on HOME EQUITY/HELOCs.
- Will assist when needed to manage the First Mortgage Processors and Closers.
- Keeps informed and ensures compliance with new developments and regulatory changes as it pertains to all lending laws, rules, and regulations.
- Perform additional duties, special projects, and assignments as required to support departmental and organizational objectives.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree and 5-7 years of lending operations or Home Equity experience with a minimum of 2-3 years of supervisory experience.
- Previous experience supervising lending staff, providing coaching, training, and performance oversight.
- May be required to attend seminars and training course
- Demonstrated success in planning, organizing, and leading people and activities. Ability to motivate, direct and coach staff.
- Knowledge of applicable Home Equity lending regulations including - closing documents, title, lien recording, funding, and disclosure requirements.
- Skilled in underwriting with Portfolio and FNMA guidelines; including use of compensating factors.
- Ability to perform in a high-volume environment and meet deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
- Technologically proficient.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:
The pay range for this position is between $71,600 - $116,550 annually. Actual base pay offered may vary depending on a number of factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary bonus, 401(k) with an 6% employer match per pay period. Benefits for this position include Medical, vision, dental, life, and disability insurance, flexible paid time off and 11 paid holidays annually.
