Job Description
Summary: Multiply Labs is a robotics company dedicated to revolutionizing the manufacturing of life-saving advanced biologics. As a Mechanical Engineer Intern, you will design complex automated machinery and collaborate with a cross-functional team to build robotic systems that enhance production efficiency and accessibility of therapeutics.
Responsibilities:
- Ownership of machine and robotic design projects
- Strong fundamental engineering concept understanding
- Investigation of applicable technologies and components
- Prototyping, testing, and iterating designs
- Generation of supporting design documentation
- Responsibilities may also include controls and actuator sizing, interfacing, integration, and testing
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software, including modeling and creation of detailed drawings
- Ability to solve complex technical problems by breaking them down into simpler pieces and executable tasks
- Knowledge of mechanical components, common engineering metals, plastics, joining methods, part fabrication methods, and finishing operations
- Understanding of manufacturability for assemblies using DFM/DFA principles
Required Qualifications:
- Currently working towards Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Strong skills in mechanical fundamentals, creative problem solving, breaking down complex problems, attention to detail, and communication
- Experience with CAD (Onshape, Solidworks, etc)
- Ability to reach, stoop, crouch, and kneel; this specifically includes the need to physically enter, stand, or crouch inside a robotic cluster for testing, debugging, or manual intervention
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds (e.g., test fixtures, replacement parts, tools) and lift up to 5 pounds overhead
- Manual dexterity required for building and adjusting mechatronic assemblies
- Comfortable in a machine shop environment when necessary
- Adherence to safety protocols and awareness of surroundings is required
- Occasional proximity to hazardous materials (e.g., biological agents, cryogenic materials) may occur during specific cell testing validation phases, though direct handling is rare
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including lab coats, safety glasses, and gloves, when accessing specific lab or manufacturing zones
- This role generally follows a standard schedule but may necessitate occasional evening or weekend work to support critical cluster integration milestones or time-sensitive troubleshooting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in iterating through design cycles from concept through production, including: concept generation, downselection, rapid prototyping, testing, analysis, and manufacturing
- Hands-on experience with machine shop and prototyping tools
- Experience with FDA and/or EMA regulated industries
