[26-27] NC Multilingual Learner (ML) Teacher at Movement… · Charlotte

OUR MISSION

Movement Schools is a growing network of free, public charter schools. We exist to love and value scholars and communities by leading a movement of excellence in education. In partnership with our families, we equip our scholars with the tools to close generational gaps through self-efficacy, access to world-class instruction, and financial education.

About This Role

Amplify Every Voice. Accelerate Every Learner. Honor Every Language.

We are seeking a passionate, mission-aligned Multilingual Learner (ML) Teacher to join our growing network of public charter schools. Our MLs bring rich linguistic and cultural assets to our classrooms every day — and they deserve teachers who see those assets, build on them, and accelerate their access to grade-level content in English.

As a K-5 ML Teacher, you will design and lead high-quality, standards-aligned English language development (ELD) instruction that builds scholar proficiency across listening, speaking, reading, and writing. You will also partner with classroom teachers to ensure MLs receive integrated language support throughout the school day. When not in session with scholars, you will support school-wide operations to keep our campus running smoothly.

If you believe multilingualism is a strength, hold high expectations for every scholar, and are committed to closing opportunity gaps for multilingual learners and their families, we invite you to apply.

What You’ll Do

You’ll accelerate language and content learning for our MLs — while honoring the languages and cultures they bring.

As a K-5 Multilingual Learner Teacher, you will:

Instructional Leadership

• Plan and deliver standards-aligned English language development (ELD) instruction grounded in the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework
• Deliver instruction through program service delivery models based on scholar language, academic, and grade-level needs
• Use scaffolded, standards-based, asset-oriented instructional practices to accelerate access to grade-level academic content
• Design language objectives alongside content objectives so every lesson develops both language and academic knowledge
• Build scholar academic vocabulary, oral discourse, and writing across the four language domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing

Assessment & Data-Driven Instruction

• Administer, score, and analyze English language proficiency (ELP) assessments, such as WIDA Screener, WIDA ACCESS, or other related assessments
• Use scholar language proficiency data, formative assessments, and progress-monitoring tools to inform instruction and identify next steps
• Track scholar progress toward reclassification criteria and celebrate proficiency growth
• Partner with classroom teachers to interpret language proficiency data and align instructional supports

Compliance & Program Management

• Partner with the Network Multilingual Learner Director to ensure compliance with federal Title III requirements, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), and the Equal Educational Opportunities Act (EEOA) as they apply to multilingual learners
• Maintain accurate multilingual learner records, home language surveys, service logs, and program documentation
• Support Home Language Survey administration, initial screening, program entry decisions, and required parent notifications within timelines
• Partner with the Exceptional Children team to support dually identified scholars (multilingual learners with IEPs or 504 plans)

Coaching & Collaboration with Classroom Teachers

• Coach classroom teachers on high-leverage instructional strategies for multilingual learners (e.g., sentence frames, comprehensible input, structured discourse, visuals, cognates)
• Co-plan with classroom teachers to design language-rich, accessible core content lessons
• Model instructional strategies in classrooms and support teachers in adopting them
• Facilitate professional development on multilingual learner instruction, culturally responsive teaching, and asset-based mindsets

Family Engagement & Cultural Bridging

• Partner with the Network Multilingual Learner Director to ensure required family communications are translated and delivered in the home language
• Collaborate with the schools’ Office Manager to bridge language access at family events, conferences, and school-wide functions
• Celebrate the languages, cultures, and identities of our multilingual scholars and families through school-wide events and classroom practice
• Build strong, trust-based relationships with multilingual families rooted in respect for their linguistic and cultural expertise, serving as a trusted point of contact for ML families

Whole-School Culture & Operations

• Uphold and reinforce Movement Schools’ culture of high expectations, urgency, and joy
• Support school-wide operations during non-instructional blocks — including arrival and dismissal duties, lunch and recess coverage, hallway transitions, family engagement events, and other operational needs as assigned
• Participate in coaching cycles, professional development, and grade-level planning

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a passionate, mission-aligned educator who sees multilingualism as a strength and holds high expectations for every scholar.

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

• Believe in the potential of every scholar and are committed to equity for multilingual learners and their families
• Bring energy, creativity, and joy to your classroom every day
• Are asset-oriented — you see linguistic and cultural diversity as strengths, not deficits
• Communicate clearly and build positive relationships with scholars, families, and adult colleagues
• Are reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities across grade levels and classrooms
• Coach adult peers with warmth, humility, and a bias toward action
• Are coachable, reflective, and open to feedback yourself
• Thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment

Required Qualifications

• Passing scores on any state-required content assessments for the applicable ESL/ESOL/Multilingual Learner credential
• Working knowledge of the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework, WIDA ACCESS, and the WIDA Screener
• Working knowledge of federal law affecting multilingual learners (Title III of ESSA, Equal Educational Opportunities Act, and Castañeda v. Pickard requirements)
• Strong commitment to equity, scholar growth, and the mission of Movement Schools
• Ability to pass criminal history background checks as required for charter school employees in any state in which Movement Schools operates
• Commitment to Movement Schools’ mission, values, and high expectations for all scholars

• Prior teaching experience in an elementary (K-5) school setting
• Bilingual or multilingual proficiency — Spanish preferred
• Master’s degree in TESOL, Bilingual Education, or a related field
• Training in the SIOP Model, GLAD Strategies, Translanguaging Pedagogy, or other evidence-based approaches for multilingual learners
• Experience administering WIDA ACCESS and interpreting proficiency data
• Experience coaching classroom teachers on multilingual learner instruction
• Experience serving dually identified scholars (multilingual learners with IEPs or 504 plans)
• Lived experience as a multilingual learner or in a multilingual community
