Who we are

moneyGenius is a proudly Atlantic Canadian company with a simple mission:

Make money easy and fun for everyone.

To achieve this, we’re committed to making both moneyGenius.ca and creditcardGenius.ca the leading Canadian resources for all things money. In addition, we're reinventing personal finance education and rewards with our new GeniusCash app that makes learning about and maximizing your money fun and engaging.

Our team helps over 400K Canadians per month make the most informed financial decisions by building best-in-class fintech products and crafting high-quality educational content. Through GeniusCash rewards, Canadians have banked over $6.4M since 2021.

And if that wasn’t enough, we were named one of Canada’s Top Growing Companies and Top Growing Women-Led Companies by The Globe and Mail's Report on Business Magazine, as well as a winner in Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 program. These achievements are a testament to our growth, and reflect the remarkable hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment of our team to our mission: to make money easy and fun for all Canadians.

So if you want in on our mission, read on…

What you'll do

We need an organized, detail-oriented Associate Editor who can write well-researched finance-focused stories, sharpen good content into something remarkable, manage our increasingly fast-paced editorial calendar, and keep things moving from idea to publication. In this role, you will:

• Manage a daily short-form content calendar, keeping topics and deadlines on track
• Brief content topics, with clear direction on audience, angle, and user experience
• Write well-researched personal finance content
• Edit content, polishing good work until every word tells and it's ready to publish
• Fact-check every piece for accuracy before it goes live
• Review all content through a reader's eye, making sure it flows as a cohesive whole and every link works
• Shape every story for a fun and memorable mobile app experience
• Refine editorial practices regularly, adapting to results like user engagement data
• Make sure every piece meets our Editorial Style Guide and quality standards
• Manage each piece of content end to end, following up until every task is closed
• Support stretch projects and cross-functional work as needed

What it's really like working here

We believe in being transparent about what this role entails – both the exciting parts and the challenges.

You'll wear many hats in a lean startup environment. As a bootstrapped company, we don't have layers of specialized staff. Some days you'll be writing content from scratch; other days you'll be editing, fact-checking, planning the editorial calendar, or repurposing existing content. If you thrive on variety and get energized by tackling different challenges, you'll love it here. If you prefer a highly specialized role with a narrow set of responsibilities, this might not be the right fit.

Quality and consistency are non-negotiable. We're a process-driven company because that's our competitive advantage. You'll need to follow our Editorial Style Guide and documented processes, and maintain meticulous attention to detail. We don't reinvent the wheel on recurring tasks – we perfect the process once and apply it consistently.

We embrace experimentation and innovation. While we rely on our processes for repeat tasks, we also take on new challenges and are always evolving to respond to a changing content landscape. You’ll need to be ready to try new tools, measure your results, and adapt.

Responsiveness matters deeply. We expect responses within hours on Zoom and within a business day by email. You'll need to close every communication loop by confirming completion or passing the ball to the next person.

Accountability is how we grow. When something goes wrong, we don't point fingers. We ask what we could have done differently and how we can capture those lessons into our processes. You'll be expected to take ownership of your work, proactively communicate when you need help, and deliver what you promised when you promised it.

Fast-paced means really fast-paced. We're a lean team executing ambitious projects. Some weeks will be intense. You'll need to juggle multiple deadlines, think on your feet, and occasionally put in extra effort to get content out the door.

The work matters. You're not just filling a content calendar – you're helping Canadians make better financial decisions. Your accuracy and high standards directly impact the trust our readers place in our brand.

What makes it worth it

You'll have real impact. In a small team, your contributions are visible and meaningful. You're not a cog in a machine – you're an essential part of making our mission happen.

You'll grow fast. The variety of challenges and our commitment to evolution means you'll develop skills quickly, from writing and editing to managing custom content tools. We invest in our people because our success depends on your success.

You'll work with people who care. Everyone here is committed to excellence and genuinely supports each other. We're building something meaningful together, and that creates a special team dynamic.

Who you are

• You have 1 – 3 years of experience in writing, editing, or content management, ideally in a fast-paced startup or digital publishing setting.
• You have a bachelor's degree in Business, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• You're legally eligible to work in Canada.
• You've got a passion for learning, fine-tuned attention to detail, and consistently high standards.
• You bring a strong work ethic and thrive in a demanding startup environment.
• Nothing slips by you with your organizational and time management skills.
• You prioritize your tasks with urgency and deadlines in mind and have impeccable follow-through.
• You've got a bias for action – you love checking things off your to-do list and getting things done.
• You write clearly and persuasively, with a sharp eye for accuracy, structure, and tone.
• You're comfortable with tools like Google Workspace and content management systems.
• You’re ready to leverage AI tools for productivity without offloading your creativity or accountability.
• You thrive in a remote-first environment and know how to stay connected and productive while working from home.
• You're able to work in ET or AT time zones because most of our team is located in Eastern and Atlantic Canada, making overlapping work hours essential for real-time collaboration and timely communication.
• You have a growth mindset – you're always learning, adapting, and ready to take on new challenges.

Being well-versed in money in several of the following areas would be ideal:

• Cars and transportation – Getting from point A to point B is expensive and something we all need to do. Buying and selling cars, car maintenance, car sharing, commuting, public transit, parking, taxis, etc.
• Credit cards – Points, welcome bonuses, rate-of-return calculations, churning, credit score, perks, insurance, fraud, acceptance, low interest balance transfers, risks, etc.
• Entertainment – Dining out, attractions, movies, music, adventures, outdoor activities, games, etc.
• Finances – Banking, saving, investing, budgeting, personal finance, money-saving strategies, loans, etc.
• Food and groceries – We all need to eat, so everyone wants to save on food. Couponing, flyers, sales, rewards, price matching, buying local, buying bulk, wholesalers, gardening, freezer cooking, buying in season, etc.
• Housing – Having a roof over our heads is necessary and expensive. Buying and selling real estate, rent, heating and cooling, maintenance, landscaping, yard work, furnishings, property taxes, etc.
• Increasing income – Salary negotiation, starting a side hustle, etc.
• Insurance – Car, home, life, disability, rental, credit card, etc.
• Investing – RRSPs, TFSAs, ETFs, mutual funds, DIY investing, diversification, etc.
• Rewards programs – Retail and travel rewards programs within Canada and internationally
• Services – Home phone, cell phones, TV/cable/satellite, internet, etc.
• Taxes – Basically any way you can lessen your tax burden legally. Tax credits, income splitting, income deferral, tax software, tax strategies, etc.
• Travel – Flights, trains, car rentals, hotels, resorts, cruises, currency conversion, etc.

This role is perfect for you if you:

• Take pride in doing things right, not just getting them done
• Can juggle multiple deadlines without dropping balls
• Know how to make educational content fun and interesting
• Enjoy making good writing even better
• Communicate clearly and follow through consistently
• Value accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement
• See style guides and documented processes as helpful structure, not bureaucracy
• Get energized by refining systems and making them better over time

This role is NOT right for you if you:

• Prefer only writing, or only editing, with a narrow focus

• Need step-by-step direction for every task or struggle with self-motivation

• Get frustrated by fast-changing priorities

• See style guides and editorial feedback as red tape rather than a competitive advantage

• Want a traditional 9–5 with clear work-life boundaries every week

What you'll get

We take care of our team. Here's a quick list of benefits you'll get working with us:

• Work from home anywhere in Canada with permanent remote full-time status
• Opportunities for continuous growth and career advancement
• Competitive salary based on your skills and experience
• Performance-based bonuses
• 100% paid premiums for health, dental, and vision insurance

• New employee toolkit that contains everything you need to do your job well (includes a company laptop, a second monitor, and a dozen other useful items)
• Mental health support through inConfidence and the Calm app
• Mobile phone allowance to help cover part of your monthly bill
• Regular team-building fun including team games, lunches, happy hours, competitions with prizes, and more
