About the Role:
As our Engineering Supervisor, you will help lead the day-to-day operations of the hotel's Engineering Department, ensuring the property, guest rooms, public areas, equipment, and building systems are safe, functional, and well maintained.
You will supervise engineering team members, coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance, respond to guest and operational needs, and help ensure the hotel operates efficiently and safely.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineering professional with strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, and a hands-on approach to hotel maintenance.

You will play an important role in maintaining the physical condition, safety, and functionality of M Social Sunnyvale. By responding quickly to maintenance needs and proactively identifying potential issues, you will help create a comfortable, safe, and seamless experience for both guests and employees.
What You'll Be Doing
Engineering Operations
- Supervise daily engineering and maintenance activities throughout the hotel
- Assign and prioritize work orders based on operational and guest needs
- Monitor the condition of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and building systems
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies
- Perform inspections and identify maintenance, repair, and safety concerns
- Ensure completed work meets hotel standards
- Assist with troubleshooting and repairs as needed
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and work orders
Team Leadership
- Supervise, support, and provide direction to Engineering team members
- Assign daily tasks and monitor completion
- Train team members on maintenance procedures, equipment, and safety practices
- Provide coaching and feedback to support employee performance
- Promote a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment
- Assist with scheduling and staffing needs as directed by management
- Communicate department priorities and operational expectations to the team
Preventive Maintenance
- Support the hotel's preventive maintenance program
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment and building systems
- Schedule and complete preventive maintenance tasks according to established procedures
- Monitor equipment performance and identify potential issues before they become major problems
- Maintain records of inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance activities
- Coordinate with outside contractors and service providers when necessary
Building Systems & Equipment
- Assist with the maintenance and operation of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and life-safety systems
- Monitor boilers, pumps, water systems, elevators, generators, and other building equipment as applicable
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs
- Maintain tools, equipment, and engineering work areas
- Ensure equipment is operated safely and according to manufacturer and hotel procedures
Guest & Employee Experience
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest maintenance requests
- Communicate with Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, and other departments regarding maintenance needs
- Follow up on guest-related maintenance issues to ensure timely resolution
- Minimize disruption to guests and hotel operations when completing repairs
- Maintain a professional appearance and courteous attitude when interacting with guests
- Support a safe and comfortable working environment for all employees
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures
- Conduct regular inspections for potential safety hazards
- Respond appropriately to maintenance emergencies and building-related incidents
- Maintain required safety documentation and inspection records
- Ensure engineering staff use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Follow applicable fire, life-safety, environmental, and building regulations
- Report accidents, hazards, equipment failures, and other safety concerns promptly
- Support emergency preparedness and response procedures
Vendor & Project Coordination
- Coordinate with contractors and outside service providers as needed
- Monitor contractor work to ensure it meets hotel standards
- Assist with property improvement and maintenance projects
- Communicate project updates and operational concerns to Engineering management
- Help coordinate work to minimize disruption to guests and hotel operations
Energy & Sustainability
- Monitor energy and utility usage and report unusual consumption
- Support hotel energy conservation initiatives
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency
- Ensure equipment is operated efficiently and appropriately
- Support environmentally responsible maintenance practices
Requirements
- Previous experience in hotel engineering, facilities maintenance, or a related field
- Strong leadership and team-management skills
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting abilities
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requests
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions

Technical / Role-Specific Requirements
- Minimum 2–3 years of engineering, facilities, or maintenance experience, preferably in a hotel or commercial property
- Previous supervisory or lead experience preferred
- Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building systems
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform basic repairs
- Experience using work-order or maintenance management systems preferred
- Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, maintenance instructions, and basic technical documentation
- Knowledge of OSHA and workplace safety practices
- Basic computer skills, including email and maintenance tracking systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous hotel Engineering or Facilities experience preferred
- Experience working with hotel property management or maintenance systems
- Technical certifications or trade experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical systems is a plus
- Experience with building automation systems is beneficial
- Experience with energy management systems is a plus
- Previous experience supervising engineering or maintenance staff
- Bilingual abilities are a plus
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb stairs throughout the shift
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to push and pull equipment and maintenance materials
- Ability to work from ladders and elevated areas when required
- Ability to work in mechanical rooms, guest rooms, outdoor areas, and other hotel environments
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely
- Ability to respond quickly to maintenance emergencies
- Ability to work in varying temperatures and environmental conditions
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Technical school, trade certification, or relevant engineering education preferred
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience will be considered
