Summary: Midwest Shoe Merchants is a family-owned retail company seeking an Accounting Assistant for its corporate office. The role supports financial operations through invoice processing, reconciliations, reporting, and audit activities while also handling front-office administration, visitor reception, office supplies, and cross-functional coordination.
Responsibilities:
- Processing vendor invoices and verifying coding, approvals, and supporting documentation
- Reconciling daily store sales reports, deposits, and financial records
- Assisting with month-end and year-end accounting activities
- Supporting financial reporting, audits, and inventory reconciliation
- Working with vendors and store teams to resolve discrepancies and obtain missing documentation
- Greeting visitors, vendors, and guests as they arrive
- Receiving and distributing incoming mail and deliveries
- Coordinating office supply inventory and replenishment for the corporate office and store locations
- Serving as a helpful point of contact for internal departments and external partners
- Prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines
- Support store operations, merchandising, and other corporate departments
- Communicate professionally with stores, vendors, and coworkers
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and office efficiency
- Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality, professionalism, and accuracy
Required Qualifications:
- • An Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent accounting experience
- • Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software
- • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace
- • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- • A professional, welcoming demeanor when interacting with employees, vendors, and visitors
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in retail, multi-location organizations, financial reconciliations, or inventory processes is a plus, but not required
