Student - Office Assistant, Archives
Location: Mechanicsburg, PA, United States
Description
This position provides assistance in the day-to-day operations of the Archives.The weekly hours for this position will be determined by the employee and the Director of Archives.
$8.00/hour
Primary Duties
1. Inventory, evaluate, file and catalog archival materials, under the supervision of the Director and Assistant Director.
2. Digitize and create metadata for archival materials, under the supervision of the Director and Assistant Director.
3. Provide research assistance for the Director as assigned.
4. Complete general duties related to the Archives, and serve as telephone and office receptionist (in the absence of staff).
5. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.

Prior work in an office environment or in libraries or archives is valued
Skills, Characteristics Required
• Computer skills (accuracy is required; familiarity with Word, Excel and Photoshop is desired)
• Pleasant personality for answering phone and greeting visitors
• Average to above-average academic ability: efficient, learns quickly
• Interest in history
• Organized, detail-oriented
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Ability to work with a minimum of supervision
Special Working Conditions
Exposure to paper dust and other potential allergens.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Must possess full range of physical motion and be able to stand and lift.
Some of the holdings in the Archives are stored in cartons weighing up to 50 pounds, and may be located on shelving that is six feet above the floor.
Dress Code Requirements
No special dress, except what is appropriate for general office purposes, including the reception of visitors.
