MESH AG→
Robotics Software Engineer at MESH AG in Birr, Switzerland
Job Description
**Build the next generation of autonomous construction robotics**
At MESH, we develop autonomous robotic systems that automate end-to-end rebar construction. Bridging digital design and physical automation, our multidisciplinary team transforms advanced robotics research into robust, production-ready industrial systems deployed globally.
## Tasks
**Role description**
We are looking for a Robotics Software Engineer to develop and productize software across the full robotics stack from perception and motion planning to control and system integration. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys working across subsystem boundaries. You will take ownership of the engineering work required to turn promising research and algorithms into robust and mature capabilities that can be deployed and maintained in real-world robotic systems.
What You Will Work On
You will contribute across the full robotics software stack, including:
• Perception: 2D/3D sensing, point-cloud processing, object and feature detection, pose estimation, calibration.
• Motion Planning: collision checking, trajectory generation and optimization, kinematics, robot/world modeling, and integration of planning algorithms.
• Robot Control: integration with industrial robot controllers, HAL layers, trajectory execution, real-time or near-real-time control interfaces, state monitoring, and coordination of multi-robotic systems.
• System Integration: connecting robotics SW, application logic, hardware, and external systems into reliable end-to-end robotic applications.
• Robotics Infrastructure: reusable software components, interfaces, configuration, logging, diagnostics, testing, simulation, and deployment infrastructure.
Your Responsibilities
• Design, implement, test, and maintain robotics software primarily in C++ and Python.
• Develop and integrate components across the full robotics SW stack.
• Take algorithms and prototypes and mature them into reliable software components.
• Build automated tests, simulation-based tests, hardware-in-the-loop tests, and system-level validation where appropriate.
• Work with industrial robots, sensors, cameras, external axes, and other automation hardware.
• Develop clean interfaces between robotics algorithms, hardware drivers, application software, and higher-level systems.
• Diagnose complex problems that span software, algorithms, networking, robot controllers, sensors, and hardware.
• Improve observability through structured logging, diagnostics, error reporting, and system health monitoring.
• Support deployment, commissioning, troubleshooting, and validation of robotic systems.
## Requirements
**What We Are Looking For**
Required
• Masters degree or higher in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Strong software engineering skills in C++, with working knowledge of Python.
• Experience developing software for robotic or other complex hardware systems.
• Good understanding of several areas of robotics, such as, motion and trajectory planning, robot control, vision, sensor and robot calibration.
• Experience with robotics middleware such as ROS/ROS2 or similar
• Comfortable working with Linux and modern software development workflows using Git, code reviews, build systems, debugging tools, and automated testing.
• Ability to debug problems across multiple layers of a robotic system rather than treating individual components in isolation.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, modularity, interfaces, and maintainability.
Experience in one or more of the following would be an advantage:
• 3D perception using point clouds, depth cameras, stereo systems.
• Libraries such as Eigen, PCL, OpenCV, or similar.
• Collision detection, robot/world modeling, trajectory optimization, or numerical optimization.
• Real-time or high-performance robot communication and control.
• Profiling, performance optimization, concurrency, and multithreaded C++.
• Deploying and supporting robotic systems outside a controlled R&D environment.
• CI/CD and automated testing for robotics software.
• Experience working with industrial robotic arms such as ABB
We do not expect you to be an expert in every part of the robotics stack. We are looking for strong software engineering fundamentals, depth in one or more robotics areas, and the ability and interest to work across subsystem boundaries.
**Eligibility**
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Switzerland or be eligible to obtain the required Swiss work authorization without employer-sponsored visa support.
**Why Join MESH?**
At MESH, you will work on robotics problems where advanced R&D meets real-world industrial deployment. Our goal is not only to develop new robotics capabilities, but to turn them into systems that solve challenging problems in real world deployments.
• You will have opportunities to work across the full robotics SW stack including system integration, and the software architecture connecting them rather than being restricted to a narrow subsystem.
• You will work directly on the engineering challenges that take robotics from promising prototypes to robust, repeatable, and deployable solutions.
• Solve challenging real-world robotics problems. Work with industrial robots, 3D vision systems, complex environments, and applications where conventional automation approaches reach their limits.
• See your work operate on real hardware. Develop software that moves beyond simulation and demos and becomes part of robotic systems deployed in real production environments.
• Have impact across the system. As part of a small, multidisciplinary engineering team, you will work closely across robotics, software, and hardware, with the opportunity to influence both technical decisions and how our robotics platform evolves.
