Job Description
Summary: Mechanical Dynamics & Analysis, LLC (MD&A) is a leading supplier of power generation maintenance services, and they are seeking a Turbine Remote Monitoring Intern to support their Remote Monitoring and Diagnostics program. This internship offers engineering students hands-on experience with gas and steam turbine performance analysis and diagnostics using real operational data.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with development of automation and visualization tools used in equipment diagnostics and reliability analysis
- Analyze operational data from gas turbines and steam turbines to evaluate performance, operating behavior, and developing issues
- Support combustion dynamics monitoring and Brayton cycle performance analysis for gas turbines
- Assist with steam turbine efficiency and performance calculations using Rankine cycle principles
- Apply thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and dynamic systems concepts to real-world turbine data
- Work under the guidance of the R&D Manager and collaborate with experienced engineers on diagnostic and reliability studies
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- One to three semesters remaining prior to graduation at the start of the internship
- Minimum 3.0 GPA (or equivalent)
- Ability to work full-time during the summer internship period
- Ability to work onsite at the Fort Collins, Colorado office
Preferred Qualifications:
- Coursework or project experience in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
- Familiarity with modeling and control of dynamic systems
- Experience or interest in programming for engineering analysis (Python, VB/VB.NET, C, or similar)
- Interest in diagnosing mechanical, thermodynamic, or performance-related issues in rotating equipment
- Exposure to data analysis, statistical methods, or interest in machine-learning applications for engineering diagnostics
Required Skills: Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Dynamic Systems Modeling, Control, Gas Turbine Performance Analysis, Steam Turbine Performance Analysis, Combustion Dynamics Monitoring, Brayton Cycle Analysis, Rankine Cycle Analysis, Programming for Engineering Analysis, Data Analysis, Statistical Methods, Machine Learning Applications for Engineering Diagnostics
