Hiring Unit: Rare Books and Special Collections
Job Title: Student Project Assistant
Hour of work: 12 hours
Hourly Rate: $16.70
Duration: September 6, 2026 to December 23, 2026; with possibility of renewal for the Winter semester
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director and working closely with Rare Books and Special Collections staff, the Project Assistant will contribute to a collection stabilization project, assist in exhibition preparation, and participate in collection maintenance, instruction, and outreach projects. Task will include but not are not limited to:
Stabilization of fragile items through interventions such as wrapping, tying, and boxing
Creating or maintaining lists of material not otherwise listed in the library catalogue
Ensuring materials are supported and dusted prior to packing
Participating in shifting projects for parts of our collections.
Assist with the installation and de-installation of exhibitions.
Assist with documentation and collections projects.
Support the selection of materials and preparation for classes and events.
Other duties as required
Training and orientation will be provided. All duties to be completed on-site, in Rare Books and Special Collections, McLennan Library Building.

Comfortable lifting boxes onto shelves; working in a sometimes dusty environment
