Job Description
Summary: Matic is a company focused on revolutionizing home robotics to save time spent on household chores. They are seeking a Mechanical Design Intern to work on the design and manufacturing of parts for their floor cleaning robot, contributing to product validation and documentation.
Responsibilities:
- Work on end-to-end design and manufacturing of parts and sub-assemblies
- Fabricate prototypes, iterate rapidly, advance your concepts through to high volume production
- Develop specifications and accelerated test plans to validate the product for its determined lifetime
- Component-level testing for performance, durability, reliability, and variability
- Complete and release component designs and documentation, including 2D drawings
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of subject matter experts to create a cohesive and balanced product
- Establish relationships with vendors, suppliers, and CMs in a startup environment
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, and in the senior year of study
- Ability to commit to a 6-month internship (with potential extension up to 12 months), working on-site at our Mountain View facility in California
- Demonstrated hands-on project experience in mechanical design (academic, research, internships, or personal projects), ideally on consumer-facing products
- Foundational understanding of materials and high-volume manufacturing methods such as Injection Molding
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD modeling software
- Working knowledge of GD&T, basic finite element analysis (FEA), and design for reliability concepts
- Thrives in a fast-paced, startup environment and is eager to take on challenging, hands-on work
- High level of ownership, curiosity, and pride in delivering quality work
- Knowledge of GD&T, finite element analysis and design for reliability concepts
