Job Description
Summary: The Massachusetts Port Authority is a dynamic organization that connects people and businesses to the global community by air, land, and sea. The Real Estate & Placemaking Intern will support Massport’s efforts to strengthen regional economic growth and enhance waterfront neighborhoods through research, project coordination, and community engagement initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Support economic development initiatives by conducting research on the blue economy and innovation ecosystem in Greater Boston and gathering data to inform Massport’s decision making
- Assist with outreach to potential blue economy and innovation partners
- Support pilot projects through precedent research, logistics support, and documentation
- Help maintain and update blue economy webpage content and resources including taking photos, gathering talking points and reference materials, and tracking content produced by peer organizations
- Assist with project coordination, stakeholder outreach, and preparation of memos, presentations, and other materials for REAM
- Supports REAM staff in planning and executing placemaking initiatives in the South Boston Waterfront
- Research and track placemaking initiatives by peer institutions throughout Greater Boston to help inform REAM’s planning efforts
- Participate in creating and installing signs, setting up tables and chairs, distributing promotional materials, conducting basic surveys, and staffing events (occasional opportunities on weekends)
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program at a college or university
- Strong academic and professional interest in real estate, urban planning, architecture, sustainability, or asset management
- Curiosity and eagerness to learn about economic development in the public sector
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and presentation abilities
- Ability to work a 37.5-hour work week with occasional opportunities on weekends to support REAM events
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application
- Ability to pass Massport's pre-employment-controlled substance test and background checks
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience or coursework related to urban development, permitting and regulatory structures, public-private partnerships, or economic development
