We started building Marshmallow in 2017. Since then, we’ve grown from 3 to 700+ people, gained unicorn status, raised ~£140M over three funding rounds, turned profitable, insured millions of drivers and lent millions in car loans.

But we’re only just getting started. Our goal is to become one of the largest financial services providers in the world. Over the next 10 years we’ll grow exponentially, not only by scaling our existing products, but also by building new ones.

To achieve our goals we need incredibly ambitious, commercially driven people who never settle for ‘good enough’. Marshmallowers are hungry for autonomy and ownership, and would rather improve than coast. Everyone raises standards and has an impact, with a focus on collective success over self-interest.

We’ve created an environment where curious, tenacious people win and grow together. If that sounds motivating, this could be the place for you.

Pricing at Marshmallow

This role will sit in the Pricing Team, reporting into the Pricing Data Science Manager. The team is responsible for managing our loss ratio, underwriting footprint, broker optimisation and growth targets, proving integral to driving the business forwards. But you’ve probably read that all before! So what’s new?

We work in a very different way to most pricing teams that you might be familiar with. Everyone in Pricing has the potential to make significant contribution to the business, taking ownership, moving fast, innovating and delivering changes to our rates at high frequency.

We don’t just churn out GLMs all day. We build & deploy exceptional in-house pricing data science models using the latest modelling techniques. You’ll work alongside other Pricing Data Scientists & Analysts pushing innovative pricing projects, whilst also being able to work with the wider Data Science community on modelling customer behaviour, fraud & MLENG enhancements.

We work alongside a bunch of amazing engineers who ensure we can implement our decisions quickly. We also have access to huge amounts of data. We don’t just mean your standard policy, claims and quote data. Our engineers spend their lives building APIs to third parties so that we know more about our customers than any of our competitors.

All of this means that you’ll have access to as much data as you can handle, the freedom to be creative, the backing of senior leaders to make decisions, and the ability to see your ideas implemented rapidly. And on top of all of that, we’re a pretty fun group to hang around with!

What you’ll be doing

• Developing a deep understanding of Marshmallow’s quote, policy and claims data and use this to derive insights that can be used to enhance our pricing.

• Own one of the strategic initiatives of the pricing team, such as supporting our expansion plans or protecting our renewing customers.

• Conducting claims analysis and claims modelling using SQL and Python.

• Conducting price optimisation analysis/modelling using Python.

• Building and deploying models in APIs for use in real time pricing.

• Identify new sources of external data that enable us to refine our view of claims risk, and conduct analysis to quantify their value.

• Working directly with our Engineering & MLENG functions to implement pricing proposals.

• Providing pricing support for the launch of multiple new products.
