Job Description
Summary: The Marmon Group LLC is part of the global industrial organization Marmon Holdings, backed by Berkshire Hathaway. The intern will support the Transportation Group controllership and finance function through financial reporting, analysis, and process improvement activities while gaining exposure to accounting and finance operations across multiple business units.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with recurring financial reporting and consolidation activities, including month-end, flash reporting, and management reporting packages
- Compile, organize, and analyze financial data to support benchmarking, variance analysis, and performance monitoring
- Prepare presentation materials and supporting schedules for leadership meetings
- Coordinate information requests across business units and platforms to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness
- Support documentation and standardization efforts, including reporting templates, mappings, and reference materials
- Assist with reviews of capital expenditure requests and related financial models
- Participate in process improvement and automation initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, accuracy, and transparency back-office workflows
- Maintain organized, well-documented workpapers and reference files to support repeatable processes and knowledge sharing
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Coursework completed or in-progress in Intermediate Accounting
- Coursework completed or in-progress in Financial Accounting
- Coursework completed or in-progress in Cost Accounting
- Coursework completed or in-progress in Introductory Finance
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Excel
- Comfort prompting LLMs (AI) to supplement workflows
- Ability to learn quickly and operate effectively in a fast-paced, professional environment
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Self-direction, initiative, and a willingness to ask thoughtful questions
- Adaptability in working across multiple teams and priorities
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy
- A growth mindset, curiosity, and genuine interest in how accounting and finance drive business decisions
- In-office at the Marmon Corporate Office in the Loop (Chicago, IL)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior work experience, internships, or organizational involvement preferred (experience does not need to be accounting-related)
- Exposure to, or interest in, tools such as Power BI, Power Automate, Tableau, or similar analytics/automation tools is a plus
- Familiarity with financial systems (e.g., consolidation or ERP tools) is a plus
- Curiosity about emerging tools is welcomed
