Senior Director, Global Risk Intelligence
Location: Toronto, Ontario

Global Risk Intelligence and Technology (GRIT) team accelerates digital enablement across the enterprise by building and scaling data‑driven platforms, analytics, and technology capabilities that support consistent and effective enterprise risk management, supporting business units in North America, Asia, and Europe. The information generated by our programs is used to make critical business decisions and allows the Board Risk Committee to effectively oversee risk-taking activities within Manulife.
Reporting to the Head of Global Risk AI and EDL, the Senior Director is accountable for the strategy, design, and ongoing evolution of Global Risk’s data and AI capabilities. This role owns Global Risk’s data products and AI platforms end-to-end, including the Enterprise Data Lake (EDL), advanced analytics, and applied AI solutions (ML and GenAI), ensuring they collectively deliver trusted, scalable, and decision-grade intelligence across all Risk functions.
This is a senior product-owning leadership role with accountability for both data foundations and AI outcomes. The incumbent acts as the enterprise Product Owner for Risk data and AI platforms, setting strategy, shaping investment priorities, and ensuring value realization from analytics and AI use cases. The role partners closely with Technology, Enterprise Architecture, the Data Office, and Risk leadership to translate risk strategy into durable data and AI capabilities that are governed, explainable, and regulator ready.
Position Responsibilities:
The incumbent owns the strategy and execution of the multi‑year Global Risk EDL roadmap, partnering with Technology, the Global Data Office, and Risk leaders to deliver consistent, governed, and analytics‑ready data that enables effective oversight and insight across Global Risk.
Risk Data & AI Product Strategy
Own the vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for Global Risk data and AI products, spanning the Enterprise Data Lake, curated data assets, advanced analytics, machine learning models, and GenAI-enabled capabilities.
Act as Product Owner for the Risk data and AI platforms, with clear accountability for value delivery, adoption, and decision impact across Risk functions.
Define and prioritize investments across data, analytics, and AI initiatives based on business impact, regulatory requirements, and strategic risk outcomes.
Establish measurable success metrics for Risk data and AI products, including data quality, model performance, scalability, explainability, and influence on risk decisions.
AI Enablement & Intelligent Risk Capabilities
Lead the development and deployment of advanced analytics, ML, and GenAI solutions to enhance risk measurement, oversight, resilience, and decision-making.
Own the AI roadmap for Global Risk, ensuring alignment with enterprise AI strategy while addressing domain-specific risk, regulatory, and governance requirements.
Ensure AI solutions are built on high-quality, well-modeled, and governed data assets, tightly integrated with the Risk EDL and analytics layers.
Set guardrails for responsible AI, including model governance, validation, monitoring, explainability, and lifecycle management in line with regulatory and audit expectations.
Enterprise Data, Analytics & AI Architecture
Set the target-state architecture for Global Risk data and AI, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards while enabling advanced analytics and AI use cases.
Drive the design of analytics- and AI-ready data layers that support ML, NLP, GenAI, and reporting at scale.
Make senior-level trade-off decisions across data modeling, ingestion patterns, feature engineering, tooling, and technical debt, with a long-term sustainability lens.
Data, Model & AI Governance
Be accountable for data quality, lineage, transparency, and AI model governance across Global Risk platforms.
Embed governance directly into data and AI products, including quality controls, metadata, monitoring, and model performance tracking.
Ensure all Risk data and AI assets meet internal governance standards and external regulatory and audit requirements.
Leadership, Influence & Talent Development
Operate as a senior thought leader for Risk data, analytics, and AI, shaping how intelligence-led capabilities transform risk management.
Translate complex data and AI concepts into clear, executive-level narratives that support prioritization and investment decisions.
Represent Global Risk in enterprise data, AI, and architecture forums as the accountable owner for the Risk intelligence domain.
Build, lead, and develop high-performing teams across data engineering, analytics, and AI, fostering a product mindset and culture of accountability.
Required Qualifications:
10+ years of senior leadership experience owning enterprise-scale data, analytics, and AI platforms with broad organizational impact.
Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, or a related field.
Deep expertise in enterprise data platforms, analytics architectures, and AI/ML ecosystems.
Strong domain knowledge in risk management within financial services or insurance, including regulatory and governance expectations for data and AI.
Demonstrated experience with AI model lifecycle management, validation, monitoring, and governance.
Ability to influence senior stakeholders, operate with executive presence, and align diverse teams around a unified data and AI product vision.

Salary range is expected to be between
$113,260.00 CAD - $210,340.00 CAD
Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
