MSP Level 2-3 Engineer (Working PST or… at LMJ Consulting · Location…
Job Description
This role works 8-5 PST or AKST
ABOUT THE ROLE
You will design, build, administer, and support the systems and infrastructure our managed service clients run on, plus LMJ's own internal IT. You solve the hard problems, act as the senior technical escalation point, and work with little supervision. This is a high level engineer role, Level 2 moving to Level 3, reporting to the Service Delivery Manager.
You work from home. Travel stays at or below 25 percent of your time on average. You need a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Bring 3 or more years of MSP experience and an AI first mindset. We want someone who reaches for AI and automation every day to work faster. Organization is not optional. Documentation upkeep is a core value here. You take good notes, you document what you did, and you enter your time and expenses accurately every day. That matters when you work remote and your hours are billable.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Administer, configure, and maintain core infrastructure, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP, across client and internal environments.
- Administer Microsoft 365, Azure, and Entra ID, including Exchange Online, Intune device management, SharePoint, and Teams. This part of the stack is required, not optional.
- Design, deploy, and maintain virtualization platforms and hybrid or cloud infrastructure that fits what the client actually needs. VMware and Hyper-V experience helps here.
- Watch system performance, capacity, and health in Datto RMM and our monitoring tools. Catch and fix problems before clients feel them.
- Manage backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity systems on Cove, Datto, and Veeam. Test restores on a set schedule and prove they work.
- Run cybersecurity controls, including patch management, SentinelOne endpoint protection, Watchguard firewall configuration, Proofpoint email security, and vulnerability remediation.
- Configure and troubleshoot Watchguard firewalls and Datto networking equipment, including VLANs, VPNs, and network segmentation.
- Write PowerShell scripts to automate routine tasks and cut manual work. Document what you build so the rest of the team can run it.
- Use AI tools and automation, including scripting, workflow automation, RMM and PSA automation, and AI assisted diagnostics, to cut out routine work and close issues faster. Keep testing new AI tools as they land and adopt the ones that help.
- Share what works. Document your prompts, scripts, and automated workflows so the rest of the team can reuse them.
- Act as the senior escalation point for complex systems and infrastructure issues. Find the root cause and fix it for good.
- Take part in project scoping and implementation within your knowledge and expertise, including server migrations, cloud migrations, network upgrades, and new system builds. Project work runs under 20 percent of your time in total.
- Document system architecture, configurations, standard operating procedures, and change history in ConnectWise PSA and the documentation repository. Keep it current.
- Mentor Tech I and Tech II staff on systems administration, advanced troubleshooting, and how to work a problem.
- Work with the Service Delivery Manager and the other engineers to standardize configurations and processes across client environments.
- Travel to client sites in Alaska, mostly in and around Anchorage, with other Alaskan locations based on client need.
- Tell management early about critical, systemic, or high visibility issues, and bring a recommendation with you.
- Take part in the on-call rotation for after hours infrastructure emergencies.
WHAT ELSE WE EXPECT
- Write clear notes on every ticket and project. Enter your time and expenses the same day the work happens.
- Manage your own queue, priorities, and follow ups. Remote work only works when you stay organized.
- Learn the LMJ toolset inside out, including ConnectWise PSA, Datto RMM, SentinelOne, Watchguard, Proofpoint, Cove, Datto, and Veeam, and use all of it.
- Know what the Service Delivery Team is trying to accomplish and what each person on it does, so your work supports theirs.
- Keep learning. Stay current on the platforms, tools, and vendor changes that affect our clients.
- Help build and improve internal standards, checklists, and runbooks.
- Support scoping and presales work on infrastructure projects when we ask.
