Job Description
Summary: Lila Sciences is the world’s first scientific superintelligence platform and autonomous lab for life, chemistry, and materials science. The DevOps Engineering Intern will support the Product Operations team in building and maintaining infrastructure and delivery platforms while gaining hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with maintaining and improving Kubernetes-based infrastructure supporting scientific services and platform workloads
- Help build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, including container image builds and automated testing
- Write and update infrastructure-as-code using Terraform and Helm charts under the guidance of senior engineers
- Support AWS cloud infrastructure tasks across services such as EKS, IAM, S3, ECR, and VPC networking
- Contribute to automation scripts and tooling in Python or Bash to improve infrastructure operations
- Assist with monitoring, logging, and observability tooling to help maintain system reliability
- Participate in incident response and troubleshooting exercises to develop operational skills
- Document processes, runbooks, and infrastructure decisions
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
- Foundational knowledge of Linux systems and command-line/Bash scripting
- Basic understanding of Python programming for scripting and automation
- Familiarity with version control using Git and GitHub workflows
- Exposure to cloud computing concepts (AWS preferred) through coursework or personal projects
- Basic understanding of containers (Docker) and container orchestration concepts
- Eagerness to learn modern DevOps practices including CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and Kubernetes
- Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative, team-first attitude
- Good written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, IAM, EKS) through labs, coursework, or personal projects
- Familiarity with Terraform, Helm, or other infrastructure-as-code tools
- Exposure to Kubernetes (Minikube, Kind, or managed clusters)
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI
- Interest in or coursework related to site reliability engineering, security, or platform engineering
- Familiarity with GitOps concepts or tools (ArgoCD, Flux)
- Contributions to open-source projects or relevant personal/academic projects
