Associate Distribution Engineer at Leidos in Lansing, MI

Summary: Leidos is seeking Associate Distribution Engineers & Designers who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. The role involves supporting the development of design and construction work packages for electrical distribution systems and ensuring high-quality work while collaborating with clients. Responsibilities: - Support the development of design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for electric utility customers - Assist in reviewing client-provided work and help interpret scope requirements under guidance from senior team members - Perform basic engineering calculations such as pole loading, guying, conductor sag and tension, and voltage drop with oversight - Provide support during construction activities, including assisting with post-construction reviews to help ensure compliance with engineering and construction standards - Assist with analysis of outages and contribute to mitigation efforts using established engineering practices - Gain experience coordinating with other utilities and field engineering requirements, supporting design efforts for cable/conduit projects, and assisting with permitting, easements, and right-of-way (ROW) documentation Required Qualifications: - Ability to demonstrate proficiency with the NESC - Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some customer-related travel could be anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates) - Willingness to perform both field and office work; Ability to work in outdoor environments on occasion; The role may require customer-site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages - Candidates should possess valid U.S. driver's license, as some local or regional travel is expected Preferred Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred); additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree Required Skills: NESC proficiency, Electrical overhead, underground distribution system design, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design, Field Data Collection, Client Design Standards, Pole loading calculations, Guying calculations, Conductor sag, tension calculations, Voltage drop calculations, Outage analysis, Utility coordination, Cable/conduit project design, Permitting, easements documentation, Right-of-way (ROW) documentation Benefits: Health and Wellness programs, Income Protection, Paid Leave, Retirement
