Job Description
Summary: Legis1 Inc. provides insights and analysis on Congress and the legislative process, and they are seeking a Data Engineering Intern to support their data pipelines and database operations. This role is suitable for someone with foundational knowledge in Python and databases, interested in working with congressional and political data.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in building and maintaining data pipelines
- Write and optimize SQL queries
- Support data transformation and validation tasks
- Work with structured datasets related to Congress, legislation, hearings, and lobbying data
- Support the implementation and maintenance of AI workflows for data engineering
- Collaborate with the team to improve data quality and documentation
Required Qualifications:
- Enrolled undergraduate student majoring in computer science, computer engineering, data science, or a related technical field
- Basic knowledge of Python
- Basic understanding of SQL and relational databases
- Familiarity with data cleaning and transformation concepts
- Interest in U.S. congressional processes and legislative data
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with PostgreSQL and/or Opensearch
- Coursework or exposure to Artificial Intelligence (AI), Large Language Models (LLMs), natural language processing, and related concepts
- Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Understanding of ETL concepts
- Exposure to APIs or web data extraction
- Academic or practical knowledge of U.S. Congress, legislation, or public policy
