Summary: The City of Lakewood is dedicated to upholding City values and is currently recruiting for a Variable Judicial Legal Research Intern position. This internship is open to first, second, or third-year law students, focusing on assisting judges and court staff with legal research and various administrative duties in a flexible part-time capacity. Responsibilities: - Conduct criminal law research using various sources such as Municipal Ordinances, State Statutes, and online legal research services - Legal writing to include drafting of motions, memoranda of law, and proposed orders - Assist Judicial Specialists during courtroom proceedings - Assist in the preparation of trial documents - Provide help to court staff during hearings and trials, including courtroom set up - Perform administrative tasks such as compiling and statistically analyzing court data - Perform other duties as assigned Required Qualifications: - 1-3L Student currently pursuing a Juris Doctorate from an accredited school of law - Strong written and verbal communication skills - Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain positive, professional relationships with judges, attorneys, clients, and court personnel - Strong organization Skills - Strong attention to detail in reviewing documents for accuracy and inconsistencies, and ensuring compliance with legal standards and deadlines - Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment - Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Proficient with online database searches - Must successfully complete and maintain required state or departmental physical standards and certifications Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in a legal or government environment preferred, but not required Required Skills: Legal research, Legal writing, Microsoft Office Suite, Online database searches
