Job Description
Position Overview
KIPP North Carolina is seeking a student-centered Multilingual Learner (ML) Teacher to provide high-quality English language development instruction and support multilingual learners in accessing rigorous grade-level content.
The ML Teacher works collaboratively with classroom teachers, school leaders, families, and regional Student Support staff to support students' English language development and academic success.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct English language development instruction to multilingual learners through push-in, pull-out, small-group, and/or co-teaching models.
- Plan and deliver instruction aligned to the North Carolina English Language Development Standards and grade-level academic standards.
- Use students' English language proficiency and academic data to differentiate instruction and monitor progress.
- Support students in developing academic language across speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to provide appropriate scaffolds and supports within grade-level instruction.
- Support implementation of language objectives, vocabulary development, sentence frames, oral rehearsal, modeling, visual supports, and other research-based practices.
- Administer or support required English language proficiency screening and annual assessments.
- Maintain accurate ML student records, service documentation, schedules, and progress-monitoring data.
- Support required student identification, monitoring, and exit procedures.
- Communicate and collaborate with multilingual learners' families in a culturally responsive and accessible manner.
- Participate in school and regional professional development, collaborative planning, and ML program implementation.
- Ensure ML services are provided in accordance with federal, state, and KIPP North Carolina requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of students, the school, and organizational priorities.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid North Carolina teaching license or eligibility for North Carolina licensure.
- Strong instructional, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to support students from diverse academic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds.
Preferred
- North Carolina ESL licensure or eligibility for ESL licensure.
- Experience teaching multilingual learners.
- Knowledge of the NC ELD Standards and WIDA framework.
- Experience with co-teaching, small-group instruction, and language-development strategies.
Additional Information
This position may support multilingual learners across more than one KIPP North Carolina school within the same geographic area based on student enrollment and program needs. Specific school assignments and schedules will be discussed during the interview process.
- Hours are M, Th, & F 7:30am - 3:30, Tu & W 7:30 - 5pm

- All teachers receive a stipend for their classroom so they don’t incur out-of-pocket costs
- Each month teachers have Teacher Work Days that include professional development, data analysis, and other important information to push their students’ learning forward
